Jennifer Bernaiche - About Me

"To Teach the Torches to Burn Bright"

I graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science Pre-Veterinary Medicine.  After graduation, I worked for an agricultural research facility and then spent most of my adult life in the social services field.  I spent 7 years as the Assistant Director and Community Educator for the New Britain YWCA Sexual Assault Crisis Service and 23 years as a Domestic Violence Counselor with the Non-Violence Alliance in Middletown, working with court ordered domestic violence offenders.  Prior to coming to St. Matthew School, I spent 12 years at St. Brigid School, West Hartford, as their middle school math and science teacher.  It was during this time that I completed coursework and obtained my Certificate in Religion from Sacred Heart University, successfully completed the Connecticut Alternate Route to Teacher Certification, and passed the Praxis II exam in Biology for grades 7-12.

This is my sixth year at SMS. I am the 5th grade homeroom teacher in charge of teaching 5th grade math, social studies and science, as well as teaching grades 6, 7, and 8 Honors Math. I also co-moderate the school yearbook, Operation Christmas Child, and the Robotics Club.

I am so excited to be a member of the St. Matthew School community and thank you for the privilege to teach your children.
